Alumni Stories
We love knowing we helped make a perfect match... and we love hearing about the special bonds families have made with their new companions! Enjoy a few stories and photos about our alumni pets!
Theo
Theo was adopted in September. His new owner Sasha saw him through the window and knew he was the one—not bothering looking at anyone else. He adjusted to the new environment within 20 minutes. He loves to play, and his favorite game is catch. Theo is the biggest cuddle bug, I wake up every morning and he is snuggled up against Sasha's chin. Along with being the sweetest cat, he is also very smart. He has learned how to sit, high five, and to spin around! I couldn't have asked for a better kitten.
Brutus
Puma
adoption room at The Anti-Cruelty Society 6 1/2 years ago. Much to my surprise, she was completely trained and obedient. She never even had an accident and as with Chows, she was/is very proud, protective and vain!! She would never consider destroying or damaging anything and prefers privacy when conducting "her business"! She is an alpha female, as well, and, as such, has been responsible for "training" many puppies in our condo building!! Puma has become somewhat of a Chicago celebrity; for 6 years she has appeared on the NBC/Chicago morning news and she has inspired a clothing line, exclusively, for BIG dogs (www.tailoreddog.com). Puma has brought joy, peace, tranquility and unconditional love to my life. To say I adore her would be an understatement"
Nickel
"When looking for a second cat, my only criterion was that he or she be sweet and not intimidating to my shy cat at home. When I walked in to PetSmart and saw Nickel, he fit the bill! When the staffer opened the door, he promptly flopped onto his back, asking for rubs on his silky-soft belly. I was smitten! The next morning, I returned with a cat carrier and took Nickel (formerly Derrick) home. I honestly could not have asked for a sweeter, better behaved cat. After a few days of quarantine in my bedroom, I introduced him to Cinnamon. After a day or so of suspicious looks, she came to realize that he was a big, playful sweetheart, and they have been growing friendlier every day, chasing around the house, eating side by side and sleeping at the foot of my bed. I absolutely love Nickel and am so happy he became part of my family. Thanks, Anti-Cruelty Society for taking care of Nickel until I could find him!"
Hennessey
Hennessey, an 8-year-old pure bred Rottweiler, came to The Anti-Cruelty Society because she needed a surgery that her her owners could not afford. One of our vets, Dr. Dent did the surgery immediately and after recovering she was placed in our Adoption Center to find her perfect new home.
Her new pet parent, Jenae, went to a couple shelters first, and found some younger dogs that she liked, but when she came to The Anti-Cruelty Society, she absolutely fell in love with Hennessy. Hennessy is adjusted beautifully to her new home, as you can see, and has met other dogs in the area and been super sweet with them.
Cookie
Trinal
"At the end of June, I adopted an English Setter puppy named Chip. He was born in the shelter along with his two sisters. Anyhow, here is an update on how things are going:
After getting Chip home, I changed his name to Trinal. It sounds like Kennel and is an adjective meaning having three parts, threefold or triple. I wanted to give him a name that meant something and he was one of three puppies in the shelter. Things have been going very well. He is just five months old and he is already potty trained. We don't have anymore accidents in the house. He is also crate trained. His dog walker comes twice a day. I have seen the two of them together and Trinal loves him. My condo is a very dog friendly building and he gets along with all the dogs. He does get a little intimidated with dogs that are bigger than him, but plays non-stop with dogs his size or smaller. He can't stand getting his paws wet, which makes it hard to walk during the rain. Of course we are still working on a few training things, like jumping and staying. All and all he is really a great puppy and I am so happy to have him. Each day I am excited to come home to him. He really brings me and everyone that has met him a lot of joy. Thank you all!"

Moki (left)
Moki was adopted from The Anti-Cruelty Society two years ago. When her pet parents laid eyes on this kitty they knew he was the one. After getting Moki home he settled in right away. His favorite things to do include playing, sleeping, and laying on shoes, as seen in the photo. Those are Moki's favorite pair of slippers. His family couldnt imagine life without him.

Toni (right)"Toni was one of your first Bully Buddy participants. She's taken Training 101 with The Anti-Cruelty Society and has worked very hard over the past year and a half to overcome the many fears she had when we brought her home (though she's still a bit afraid of cats). She's also helped many of our friends and neighbors overcome their fears and learn that pit bulls can be gentle, loving pets. Many thanks to The Anti-Cruelty Society for introducing us to, bar none, the best dog we've had the honor of knowing and having as part of our family."
