Love At First Sight - An Adoption Story
Nancy McDaniel came to The Anti-Cruelty Society in June of 2006 knowing exactly what she wanted: two sibling kittens that would grow up together and genuinely love one another.
After the death of her elderly cat, she decided she was ready to adopt again. She really wanted two kittens that would curl up with one another—her previous cats had never genuinely enjoyed one another enough to do so. So by getting two bonded kittens, she had a better chance that they would love one another unconditionally. And then she met Bob and Spud.
“I had my mind set on getting kittens, but I kept coming back to Bob and Spud because they were so sweet,” said Nancy. “They were cuddled up with one another in their kennel and
I thought if I didn’t take them home, then who would? I knew the Society didn’t want to separate them and I sure didn’t want to see them without one another. I just couldn’t resist, they were perfect for me.”
Bob and Spud were older cats: Bob was six and Spud was eight. The thought of finding two bonded older cats hadn’t crossed Nancy’s mind until she met this dynamic duo. “I love watching them. Spud curls his body around Bob and grooms him,” said Nancy. “He actually puts his paw on him and holds him down to groom him. Bob never puts up a fight—he loves it. It’s really cute.”
When Nancy arrived home with Bob and Spud, they settled in right away like they had always lived with her. Although it was four years ago, she doesn’t remember them hiding or being nervous at all.
“This was my first time adopting from The Anti-Cruelty Society, and it was the best choice I made, they are the best cats I’ve ever had,” said Nancy. “Even my veterinarian said, ‘Boy, you really got two good ones this time!’ And I couldn’t be happier; they are mellow, sweet, and overall great cats!”
