Who: The Anti-Cruelty Society was the coordinating organization that received 43 dogs rescued from several puppy mill raids throughout the Midwest. The dogs have been placed with animal welfare organizations throughout Chicago including The Anti-Cruelty Society who kept and is caring for 10 of the dogs until they are placed into loving permanent homes.
What: Among the rescued dogs that arrived at the Society were adults used for breeding between the ages of 3 and 7 years old and included breeds such as Yorkies, Cavalier King Charles, Shih Tzus, poodles, chihuahuas, Bichon frises, beagles, and cocker spaniel mix dogs.
When: Sunday, June 12, 2011 between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Where: The Anti-Cruelty Society Adoption Center – 510 N. LaSalle, Chicago, IL 60654
Details: Through the coordinated efforts of The Anti-Cruelty Society and Best Friends Animal Society, The Anti-Cruelty Society will continue to receive dogs from puppy mill raids and place the dogs with new adopters. Working together with other organizations, The Anti-Cruelty Society continues saving the lives of animals in need.
“Due to poor treatment and conditions that the dogs have been in, all potential adopters will be made aware of any of any known medical or behavioral conditions before considering adopting,” said Dr. Robyn Barbiers, President of The Anti-Cruelty Society. “In the future, the dogs could require additional veterinary care and their owners should expect to incur additional veterinary costs.”
The dogs are currently taking time to settle in to their new temporary home before going up for adoption. They will receive a veterinary examination and behavior screening to determine their health and personality. Once they are cleared by our veterinarians, they will be available for adoption. Interested adopters are asked not to call but to check our adoption page to see when the dog is available for adoption. Updates will also be posted on this page as their status changes.
