Foster Program

The Anti-Cruelty Society's Foster Program is a vital lifeline that aids in the rehabilitation of cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies.

Foster volunteers are key to the program's success and in 2009 temporarily housed over 500 animals! These dedicated volunteers provide temporary housing for animals who are not ready for adoption room placement. The individual love and care of a foster parent gives the animal an opportunity to flourish in a home rather than in the shelter environment.

By becoming a Foster Volunteer, you can provide the individualized care and affection an animal needs to be restored to their optimal state. By providing these animals with additional socialization, fosters are also preparing them for placement in forever homes. Foster periods may vary from a couple of weeks to several months - but the impact on the person and pet last a lifetime.

Common Reasons Animals are Fostered:

  • age
  • weight
  • illness
  • injury
  • socialization

The Anti-Cruelty Society provides all foster animals with veterinary care, medication, and access to our certified behaviorists. Foster parents are asked to supply food, toys, supplies, bedding, and tons of tender love and care.

To become a foster volunteer you must be over 18 years of age and reside within the Chicagoland area.
