Playful Parrots: Bird Care (April 8th, 2008)
THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Contact American Humane for further info.
Birds are surrendered to animal shelters and bird rescue groups throughout the country for a variety of reasons. With the growing popularity of companion parrots and other types of birds, shelters will continue to see a rise in bird admissions. With the basic understanding of bird behavior, shelter employees can handle birds with a minimum amount of stress to both themselves and the birds. American Humane’s one-day intensive class addresses normal bird behavior, bird health issues, bird care in shelter and rescue environments and proper bird housing.
This one-day workshop includes bird handling and capture, requirements for a well-behaved bird, bird aggression, nutritional requirements for different species of birds, bird training, common behavior problems in birds and possible solutions for these behaviors, evaluating birds for adoptability and matching potential adopters with individual birds, and what information and resources to provide adopters.
