Insight Studios, Double Door and Cobra Lounge unite for a weekend-long benefit
supporting the Anti-Cruelty Society SPCA of Illinois
CHICAGO, IL (March 12, 2008) – In celebration of its third anniversary, Chicago's most progressive tattoo and piercing parlor, Insight Studios, will be hosting three days of events with the goal of raising $3,000 for the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago. From Friday, March 28th through Sunday, March 31st, 100% of the shops profits will be donated to the society. During the largest benefit weekend that the shop has hosted to date, two rocks shows featuring six Chicago bands will also be held at Double Door and Cobra Lounge to raise funds.
"This is our fourth benefit weekend and second round of rock shows raising money for the Anti-Cruelty Society – so far we've raised over $8,000" said Bob Jones, manager of Insight Studios. "As this is our third anniversary, we set the goal of raising $3,000 in three days. We really believe we can make this happen, especially since we're collaborating with six bands, Double Door, and Cobra Lounge."
Kicking-off the weekend on Friday, March 28th, National Jet Set and Church Key are set to perform, as well as a DJ set by Bob Jones at Cobra Lounge, located at 235 N. Ashland. The shows start at 10 p.m. and a percentage of the bar's profits from that night will be donated to the Anti-Cruelty Society. Drink specials will be featured and artwork from various artists will be on display. A raffle will also be held to win prizes from Insight Studios and local hair salon Twisted Scissors to raise additional funds.
On Saturday, March 29th, the second benefit rock show will be held at Double Door, located at 1572 N. Milwaukee. The line-up for the night includes Electric Six, Alex Winston, Tight Phantomz and Ramova. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15, available at the door or on www.doubledoorchicago.com. A percentage of the ticket sales will be donated to the Anti-Cruelty Society, as well as a percentage of bar's profits that night. Another raffle will be held to win prizes from Insight Studios and Twisted Scissors. Any additional audience donations are welcome at both shows or at the shop.
Although it may seem unconventional for a tattoo shop to support a local non-profit organization, the artists at Insight Studios believe that the benefit weekend is actually inherent with the art of tattooing and piercing.
"Almost anyone who chooses to tattoo or pierce themselves does so with a purpose or meaning behind the body art… it's an expression of themselves or of a passion for something," said Bob Jones, manager of Insight Studios. "In that same spirit, Insight is passionate about the cause of the Anti-Cruelty Society, which is why we continually support them."
The Anti-Cruelty Society SPCA of Illinois (www.anticruelty.org) is one of the largest humane societies in the country, preventing cruelty to animals and advancing humane education.
