Charlotte's Cat Corner
On Wednesday May 21, 2008 The Anti-Cruelty Society hosted the dedication and grand opening of Charlotte’s Cat Corner, featuring 2 new cageless adoption arenas for cats. These newly opened cage-free adoption rooms will allow The Anti-Cruelty Society to feature more of their lovable cats for adoption, including those cats that don’t do as well in caged environments.

This exciting and beautiful new space was made possible through a generous gift from long-time board member Charlotte Bruckner Schmitt. Charlotte also provided the leadership gift to fund the Bruckner Rehabilitation and Treatment center in honor of her family, who has a long and important history in the Chicago area. William Bruckner, was part of the senior leadership team of Continental Bank, whose savvy leadership helped some of Chicago’s first families financially survive the depression. His wife was a founding member of the Hinsdale Animal Shelter. A family of true animal lovers.

The large glass windows and wide open spaces allow onlookers and potential new pet parents to better view the cats, in addition, giving the kitties more room to play freely. Charlotte’s Cat Corner also creates a one-of-a-kind experience for potential new pet parents. These new cage-free adoption rooms will allow prospective pet owners to witness the cats playing and interacting in their natural environments, helping the owners to learn a little more about the personalities of their potential new family member!

“Charlotte’s Cat Corner is an exciting new addition to our efforts to find loving new homes for more animals than ever before,” said David Dinger, Acting President of The Anti-Cruelty Society. “The opening of Charlotte’s Cat Corner only furthers The Anti-Cruelty Society’s mission to help save and find new homes for cats.” With space for 12-15 cats in each of the two rooms, the cats can receive more attention from potential adopters, highlighting their lovable personalities. The Anti-Cruelty Society also recently opened the new Virginia Butts Berger Cat Clinic in March, helping to rehabilitate up to 800 additional cats annually.
