Tennessee Puppy Mill Raid

THE ANTI-CRUELTY SOCIETY RECEIVES 20 PUPPY MILL PUPPIES
Rescued puppies will be available for adoption this weekend.

Chicago, IL (June 4, 2009) -- The Anti-Cruelty Society received 20 puppies from dogs that were rescued from the February 11, 2009 ASPCA puppy mill raid in White County, Tennessee. Among the breeds are Poodles, Miniature Pinschers, Pomeranians, and several more.

According to the ASPCA more than 250 dogs were recovered in the raid. When seized the dogs lacked basic care including little or no food, were kept in small feces-covered cages, and had inadequate ventilation.

These puppies have been under the care of Bernie Berlin of A Place to Bark in Nashville, Tennessee. Ms. Berlin was instrumental in taking in and caring for many of the dogs and puppies taken from the White County raid.  “Some of the dogs that came to me were ready to give birth.”  And they did shortly after they arrived at A Place to Bark.  “I have spent the last few months hand feeding and caring for these adorable puppies and now it’s time they find a permanent loving home. My partnership with The Anti-Cruelty Society allows me to bring them to a well-respected shelter where there is a great demand for puppies and I know they will placed with loving families” said Berlin.

“We are happy to be working with Bernie and A Place to Bark.  She provides wonderful care for so many animals that come to her small shelter and without demand for these animals in Tennessee, we work with her to help find a loving home for each of them” Dr. Robyn Barbiers, President of The Anti-Cruelty Society said.

The dogs have been transferred to The Anti-Cruelty Society and some will be available for adoption on Saturday, June 6. Adoption requirements are on The Society’s Web site, www.anticruelty.org. Anyone interested in adopting should review the requirements and visit The Society on or after Saturday.  The public is encouraged not to call The Anti-Cruelty Society for information.
