The Anti-Cruelty Society Receives Grant from
the Animal Farm Foundation
The Anti-Cruelty Society received a $500 Perfect Match Award from Animal Farm Foundation, Inc. thanks to the efforts of Michael Holmes and his best friend Eddie. The award will assist our Bully Buddy Adoption Program with making more perfect matches like Michael and Eddie.
Michael and Eddie's Story
Michael Holmes first met Eddie at The Anti-Cruelty Society on a cold December day in 2008. Eddie had been surrendered to the Society because his owners could not find a home for him and they could no longer keep him.
Because of his desire to prove to others that pit bulls are wonderful dogs, Michael was specifically looking for a pit bull. When he saw Eddie, he immediately fell in love with the four-month-old brown and white puppy. On December 13, 2008, Eddie went home with his new forever family, Michael and a 12-year-old Jack Russell-mix named Petey.
Eddie was enrolled in Puppy Obedience Class so he could create a stronger bond with his new family members. The training didn’t stop there. In addition to completing the initial class, they have since completed beginner and intermediate obedience classes, as well as a beginner agility class.
“Continuous training is great,” said Michael. “He’s really smart and really wants to please me!”
On October 25, 2009, Eddie received his Canine Good Citizen certification. This certification will allow Michael and Eddie to do therapy work together and help others experience the joy that Michael gets from Eddie.
The duo just began another agility class, as they continue to lead by example in demonstrating to their community the true meaning of “man and his best friend.”
